On Wednesday, we read the prompt for the final essay for the semester--an argumentative essay making an argument for or against including "Romeo and Juliet" in the ninth-grade curriculum. The prompt is on page 366 of the Springboard book. Then, students completed the Likert scale on page 367. In addition, we reviewed rhetorical appeals--ethos, pathos, and logos.
On Thursday, we read "On the Bard's birthday, is Shakespeare still relevant?" by Alexandra Petri; this is on pages 371-375. Students completed a SOAPStone graphic organizer which is due at the beginning of Friday's class.
On Friday, we read an excerpt from "How Shakespeare Changed Everything" (383-385). As we read each chunk of the essay, students completed the chart on page 386.
