Today, students received a final study guide. We spent a little time going over this sheet and discussing the format of Friday's final. Here's the study guide:
Then, we started the film version of Ken Kesey's famous novel,"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
Students had the class period to finalize their literary analysis essays, due to Turnitin by midnight.
On Wednesday, students had the class period to work on drafting their literary analysis essays which were due to Turnitin by midnight.
On Thursday, students participated in an online peer review activity. The final essay is due to Turnitin by midnight on Friday. The 15-point theme poster assignment was due on Monday. I gave students an overview for the remaining days of the semester. In a nutshell, students will be working on a literary analysis essay on the book, This Boy's Life. Here's the grading rubric:
The draft of this essay is due to Turnitin by midnight on Wednesday. There will be a peer review on Thursday, and the final essay is due on Friday.
This essay is all we are working on this week. Today, there was a final test on the novel. Then, students had the rest of the class period to work on a theme poster by following these instructions:
Choose one of the following themes: transformation, abuse, coming of age, or relationships. Then, prepare an artful poster/display which includes the following information:
*This is a 15-point assignment. In class today, we finished reading This Boy's Life. We talked about the book and whether or not students enjoyed reading it in class. Part of the appeal of this memoir, is the univeral themes. In order to help students understand this, they worked on this assignment:
There will be a test on the novel tomorrow.
Class started with a reading quiz on pages 237-265 of This Boy's Life. Following the quiz, we read--almost finishing the book!
Following the vocabulary quiz, we read a big chunk of the text. Tomorrow there will be a reading quiz on pages 237-265.
There is a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.
In class today, students completed a response assignment by choosing five of the following questions on a separate sheet of lined paper: Develop ideas with examples from the novel.
